ASTR – Advanced Soft Tissue Release

The soft tissues, that is the muscles, ligaments, tendons, and fascia, are often the cause of many painful conditions. Injuries and overuse syndromes create scar tissue (fibrosis) and myofascial adhesions. Scar tissue is laid down in an irregular pattern, it is thinner, weaker, less elastic and permanently more pain sensitive. Scar tissue and adhesions often limits normal ranges of motion and cause pain. For optimal results fibrosis has to be released. A misaligned spine is always accompanied by scar tissues.

There are a number of procedures that attempt to remove scar tissue and myofascial adhesions like Rolfing and deep tissue massage but the problem with all but one is they are all painful when breaking up the scar tissue. Personally I always thought that massage had to be painful to be therapeutic or effective but I was wrong. There is one technique called advanced soft tissue release that is able to break up the scar tissue and myofascial adhesions without pain. The process of developing scar tissue in the first place begins with pain and with pain we have inflammation. Then the body sends cells called fibroblasts that repair the area by laying down collagen. You know this as scar tissue deep in the soft tissues. To remove the scar tissue it has to be done painlessly. “No pain, no gain” does not apply here! Watch the video of me working on the gymnast, Justin for a visual description of the procedure.
